Last of the Dojunkai

Japan Times Article – Last of the Dojunkai.

This is a project I shot back in 2013, on 35mm film. It is a visual exploration of the last of the Dojunkai Apartments, the iconic Tokyo social housing projects built in the 1920s to re-home victims of the Great Kanto Quake, and subsequently sold off/torn down due to property developers wanting the land for more profitable commercial uses.

Recently the Japan Times published some of my images alongside an extensive piece of text written by Tyler Rothmar about the last days of the final dojunkai building to be demolished. The article was published both online and in print, you can read the online article here.

For the full collection of images in this project visit the project gallery here.
